Privacy Policy

We're DatSavvy, and we take data seriously, which is probably not a surprise given what we do for a living. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We've tried to write it the way we'd explain it to a client, in plain English, without the usual small print nobody reads.

Who we are

DatSavvy is a trading style of Davison Business Consultancy Ltd, based in the North East of England. For the purposes of data protection law, we are the "controller" of the information described in this policy, which means we decide why and how it's used.

If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your data, contact Brooke directly at brooke@datsavvy.com.

What information we collect

We collect information in two ways. Information you give us directly. This includes your name, email address, company and job title, and any other details you share when you get in touch, opt in to our mailing list, or work with us as a client.

Information we find from other sources. As part of how we identify businesses who might benefit from what we do, we use professional data and networking tools, including Apollo and LinkedIn, to find publicly available business contact details such as name, job title, company, and work email address. We only use this to identify people for whom our services are professionally relevant.

Why we use your information, and on what basis

Sending an initial, relevant introduction to businesses we think we can genuinely help. Legitimate interests. We contact only people whose roles make this relevant, and you can opt out at any time.

Sending our newsletter and ongoing marketing content once you've opted in. Consent, given by you through our signup form. Delivering our services to clients, and the admin that comes with that (invoicing, contracts, correspondence). Necessary to perform our contract with you.

Keeping financial records. Legal obligation. Where we rely on legitimate interests, we've weighed our interest in reaching relevant businesses against your right to privacy, and we only proceed where we're satisfied that balance is fair. You have the right to object to this at any time, and we'll stop.

Where your information came from, if we didn't collect it from you directly

If you're receiving an email from us and you don't remember signing up, it's most likely because we found your publicly listed business contact details through Apollo or LinkedIn, on the basis that our work is relevant to your role. We'll always tell you this in our first message to you, and give you an easy way to opt out or, if you'd rather, opt in properly to hear more.

Who we share your information with

We don't sell your information, full stop. We do use a small number of trusted tools to run our business, and they process data on our behalf:

  • Mailchimp, to send our newsletter and marketing emails.

  • Apollo, to identify and enrich business contact details.

  • Wix, to host our website.

These providers use your information only to provide their services to us, under their own data processing agreements. Some of these providers are based in the United States. Where that's the case, we rely on appropriate safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, to make sure your information is still protected.

How long we keep your information

We only keep information for as long as we need it.

  • If you're a prospect we've contacted under legitimate interests and you don't engage or opt in, we keep your details for a limited period before removing them, and immediately if you ask us to.

  • If you've opted in to our newsletter, we keep your details until you unsubscribe, or until you've been inactive for a sustained period, at which point we'll ask you to confirm you'd still like to hear from us.

  • If you're a client, we keep contract and financial records for as long as the law requires, generally six years for accounting purposes.

We remove non-engaging prospects after 365 days.

Keeping your information secure

We use reputable providers with their own security standards, restrict access to your information to those who need it to do their job, and don't keep information for longer than described above.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • ask us what information we hold about you, and get a copy of it

  • ask us to correct anything that's inaccurate or out of date

  • ask us to delete your information

  • object to us processing your information, including for marketing, at any time

  • ask us to restrict how we use your information

  • ask for your information in a portable format, where relevant

  • withdraw consent at any time, where consent is our basis for processing

To exercise any of these, just email brooke@datsavvy.com. We'll respond within one month.

If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though we'd appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Marketing preferences

Every marketing email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe. Once you unsubscribe, we'll stop, and we'll suppress your details so we don't accidentally contact you again.

Cookies

Our website may use cookies to help it run properly and to understand how it's used.

Children

Our services are aimed at businesses, not individuals, and we don't knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this policy if the way we handle information changes, and we'll update the date at the top when we do.
